Maxwel (Max) Alexander Willis, age 24, of Farmington, MN passed away on Saturday, June 20th, 2020 in Winton, MN. Max was born September 14, 1995 in St. Paul, MN. He was raised and attended school in Farmington, MN. Max had many interests but hockey quickly became his passion, and he dreamt of becoming a professional goalie. When he wasn’t in the hockey arena he spent countless hours on the rink our dad crafted in the yard every winter playing with his friends into the late hours, much to the dismay of our neighbors.
After graduating high school Max enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. where he excelled as Platoon Leader and graduated as Company Honor Man earning him the rank of Lance Corporal upon completion of basic training on November 21st, 2014. Whatever Max did, he did it well and was proud to serve his country. Max was eventually stationed in Oahu, Hawaii where he met and married his wife Sarah on July 23, 2016. Two years later they were blessed with their beautiful little girl Nova, who was the light of her daddy’s life.
Max was a caring young man with a mischievous side stemming back to when he was a little boy. Although he enjoyed tormenting his older sister, he adored and looked up to her. His spitfire personality kept his mom on her toes on their frequent, competitive card-game IHOP dinner dates. He was unapologetically true to himself with a raw sense of humor that he loved sharing with those around him. Though a private man, he genuinely loved his family, especially his daughter Nova. Max is much loved and his infectious laugh and big smile will be missed greatly by his family and friends. His wishes for all are best put in his own words, “Can’t we all just get along?”.
He is survived by his wife Sarah and daughter Nova in Winton, MN; father, Brian (Patti) Willis, Farmington, MN; mother Staci (Mark) Lautigar, Bloomington, MN; sister Mandi (Brandon) Markwardt, West Fargo, ND; grandparents Harold and Deb Willis, Prior Lake, MN, Gary and Corina Kuck, Detroit Lakes, MN, and William and Ginger Maynard, Alexandria, MN; and his many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service is being held at 4:00pm on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 at the Crossroads Church, 17671 Glacier Way, Lakeville, MN. Full military honors to lead the service. Social hour to follow. If so desired, contributions in honor of Max’s memory may be made at www.stopsoldiersuicide.org. “Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I have died with honour. Valhalla awaits me. Where the brave shall live forever.”
Until Valhalla.
